Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales said to reporters that the fact-finding investigation has been initiated regarding the alleged involvement of Senator Leila de Lima in the illegal drug trade in the country.
“There have been some leads. We’re giving it due course by conducting fact-finding” she said.
October complaint by Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, head of Albuera Leyte Police who accused De Lima of receiving a “protection money” from confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa.
Ombudsman Carpio-Morales said last month that she was not inclined to iniate a moth proprio investigation on the agency’s own impulse, citing the lack of firm leads against Senator Leila de Lima.
