Son of President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte slammed Commission on Human Rights chair Chito Gascon for comparing the death toll in the administration’s anti-drug war and Martial Law victims.
Paolo Duterte said Gascon’s remark “was outrageous” and “an insult” to the victims of the Martial Law. And also part of “efforts to attack and undermine” the President and his war against illegal drugs.
“The victims of Martial Law and those who were killed during police operations against drug personalities do not bare any comparison—not even in numbers. Being compared to the people whose lives were wasted on the evils of illegal drugs was an insult to those who died because of their political ideology,” Vice Mayor Duterte said in a statement.
“It also exposed the twistedness of his position on the campaign of the President to solve the drug problem in the country,” he added.
“But it can only be surmised that Gascon’s recklessness and insensitivity emanate from the efforts to attack and undermine President Duterte and his agenda to rid the country of illegal drugs, solve the peace and order problem, and end corruption in government.” he said.
