After 15 people were killed in a warrant raid conducted by police including the mayor of Ozamiz City early on Sunday, PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa warned drug lords that law enforcers would be running after them.
PNP Chief Dela Rosa said in a news conference that the law should be enforce without fear or favor and that they were building cases against more illegal drug operators nationwide.
The PNP-CIDG has filed drug trafficking charges in the Department of Justice against Peter Lim and alleged drug kingpin Kerwin Espinosa, on Monday but the details were not provided.
Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered an immigration lookout for Lim and other alleged drug traffickers to prevent them from fleeing the Philippines.
But Lim’s lawyer, Pedro Leslie Salva, said that only the court can prohibit a person from traveling abroad and that an immigration loookout was not a travel ban.
On the other hand, Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. was among the people publicly linked to the illegal drug trade last year by President Duterte.
Parojinog, together with his wife, brother and 12 others were killed in a warrant raid conducted by police early on Sunday in San Roque Lawis village, Ozamiz City.
Eleven people, including Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Echaves (Parojinog’s daughter) were arrested.
Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido described the mayor as a “high-value target on illegal drugs.”
According to Espenido, officers raided the house of the Parojinog family to enforce search warrants for illegal drugs and firearms when gunmen allegedly opened fire on them, sparking clashes that killed the mayor.
Dela Rosa and President Duterte had not yet talk about the Ozamiz bloodbath.
PNP Chief Dela Rosa said, that law enforcers would conduct many such operations against drug lords and narcopoliticians who appeared on President Duterte’s drug watchlist.
He reminded also those who were listed that they had nothing to fear, as investigation would eventually show if they were not involved in the drug trade.
He also said that the PNP operates without fear or favor, and if they were able to validate the involvement in illegal drugs of those who were on the list, then they have to prepare themselves.
