AFP Chief Año is President Duterte’s top pick in replace of former DILG Chief Ismael Sueno, after he was fired in April due to “loss of trust and confidence.”
Apparently, this will not happen as of the moment, Año will be retiring on December 31, 2017 because Duterte because martial law was extended in Mindanao. And Duterte was made aware of the provision in the Republic Act No. 6975 which states “no retired or resigned military officer or police official may be appointed as Secretary one (1) year from the date of his retirement or resignation.”
The appointment is still not confirmed. The option for the President is whether to select another appointee of the said position, or if he would continue to keep USEC Catalino Uy as officer0in-charge in DILG while waiting for Chief Año.
