Cancelled Flights due to APEC Summit

MANILA, Philippines – The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) advised airlines of periodic, temporary runway closures at the country’s main gateway during the Asia-Pacific Economic Coooperation (APEC) high-profile meetings to be held in Manila next month.

The country, which is hosting APEC this year, will accommodate heads of states and business leaders from the organization’s member economies for the following meetings in November:

  • November 16 to 18 – APEC CEO Summit
  • November 17 – APEC SME Summit
  • November 18 – ABAC Dialogue with Leaders
  • November 18 to 19 – APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting

Thus, periodic, temporary runway closures will be scheduled at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) during the arrival and departure of heads of states.

Take Clark Airport instead

Overseas Filipinos, particularly those working abroad (OFWs) and coming home during the APEC meetings are also advised on October 28 to either arrive earlier or leave much later than those dates since commercial flights will be subjected to long delays or cancellations.

But Clark International Airport is not affected by these delays or cancellations. Thus, OFWs should take their flights home or leave from Clark during the APEC meetings in November, recruitment specialist Emmanuel Geslani said.

Middle Eastern and other budget airlines fly to Clark from Hong Kong, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Riyadh or Qatar.
