The tough-talking Mayor Rodrigo Duterte turns emotional as he bid farewell to the city and his beloved people.
At the opening of Pasko Fiesta sa Dabaw 2015, Duterte told his constituents the city have a new mayor after christmas in the person of his daughter Sara Duterte.
“I will leave you with a heavy heart,” Duterte said before an applauding crowd.
“I will retire from public office,” the 79-year-old Duterte said. “I’m already at the crossroads of my life.”
Mayor Duterte urged his people to treat each other well,like brothers and sisters.
”Don’t say something about the religion. Mindanao is for all people,” he said. “I will not quarrel with anybody. Things will never be the same again for all us.”
“I love my country. It is the love of my country that brought me (here)” said the mayor, referring to his latest decision. “I don’t know what is in store for me.”
He also revealed his plan to invite groups who are fighting for their respective ideologies such as the communist insurgents and the Moro People for a talk and vows to create a coalition government.
“Inclusive – NPA, Moro…I will not tell you to lay down your arms,” said Duterte. “I will work with a policy that will work for all of us.”
