The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday accepted the certificate of candidacy (COC) of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for President.
In a press briefing,Comelec Chairman Andy Bautista said the en banc voted 6-1 in favor of Duterte.
Bautista clarified that the resolution ”is entirely without prejudice to the pending disqualification case” filed by broadcaster Ruben Castor.
The Comelec on Friday, December 18 will hear a case that seeks to block Duterte’s candidacy.
Ruben Castor, the petitioner argued that Diño cannot be substituted since his COC is flawed. Comelec clarified that Duterte’s COC was accepted because it follows the correct format and the presidential aspirant complied with all the rules on substitution.
