Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Presidential candidate questioned the Comelec “Am I a candidate” when asked if he would attend in the first presidential debate sponsored by the Comelec and media organizations.
During the press conference Monday night, Duterte said he was confused why the Comelec included him in the list of those invited for the presidential debate in Cagayan de Oro on February 21,when the disqualification cases filed against him still has not yet resolved.
“Please ask them (Comelec) why they included me in the debate. How sure are they that I am a candidate?” Philippine Daily Inquirer qouted him as saying.
Earlier,The mayor said he would not attend to the presidential debate in Cagayan de Oro City, because he has been busy traveling around looking for campaign funds.
“I have no time for that, may be in the future there would be other presidential forums,” he said.
However,Duterte said he would only attend to the presidential debate in Cagayan de Oro, if only the Commission on Elections will declared him as a legitimate presidential candidate for 2016 election.
“If I go there and they later disqualify me, that would make look like a fool,” he said.
“You resolve the cases first. Why invite me when you are not sure if I am a candidate,” he added.
