Presumptive President Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said poverty is not an excuse for someone to commit a crime, and to destroy the lives of young people and the country.
“Just because you are poor, does not mean to say you have to sell shabu. ‘Yan ang mahirap diyan eh, people use poverty,” Duterte said in an interview with Jessica Soho on Wednesday.
“Do not use poverty as a reason to destroy the lives of young people and the country,” he added.
During the campaign period,The tough-talking Mayor Duterte and soon-to-be President vowed to end crime,drugs,corruption within 3 to 6 months if he is elected as the next President of the country.
He also vowed to re-introduce the death penalty by hanging for heinous crimes including drugs and rape.
“What I would do is urge Congress to restore the death penalty by hanging, especially if you use drugs,” duterte said.
